Nestled between Ashby Folville and Great Dalby, Knotting Hill Barn House gives guests the chance to escape and unwind – completely off grid, yet with all the modern comforts expected from premium accommodation.
Owner Peter Moore quickly discovered that connecting the cabin to mains electricity would cost more than £30,000. Determined to offer a luxury stay without compromise, he turned to Energy Solutions for an alternative.
Peter said: “Although we wanted to offer an off-grid location, we also needed the cabin to offer all the facilities people would look for on a luxury stay.
“Getting a mains connection to the woodland wasn’t feasible and when we started speaking to Energy Solutions we knew the EasyGrid was the answer we were looking for.”

Energy Solutions delivers reliable off-grid power for hospitality
After assessing the cabin’s load profile, the team recommended an EasyGrid 3000 Lithium system paired with a 4kW roof-mounted solar array. The system supplies electricity for lighting, refrigeration and other appliances while keeping running noise to a minimum.
A JCB G13QX diesel generator located 75 metres from the cabin provides occasional backup, operating for just five per cent of the time. Heating and cooking are handled via gas and all electrical fixtures use high-efficiency LEDs to minimise consumption.
