When a leading multinational technology company asked RS French Ltd to design a set of high-specification welfare cabins that aligned with their corporate sustainability goals, one requirement stood out – no diesel generators.
The welfare units, designed and manufactured in Faversham, Kent, needed to power kitchens, offices, toilets and drying rooms efficiently, using renewable energy wherever possible. That meant a traditional generator-only setup wasn’t an option.

To deliver consistent off-grid power, RS French partnered with Energy Solutions, selecting a hybrid EasyGrid system enhanced with both solar and wind generation.
The containerised cabin integrated all components seamlessly:
- Roof-mounted solar array to capture daytime energy
- Pole-mounted wind turbine to generate power during low-light or nighttime conditions
- LPG backup generator for minimal runtime (just 11% during testing)
The EasyGrid unit and generator were housed in a dedicated compartment within the container, keeping the design compact, efficient and easy to maintain.
Results: low emissions, high efficiency
Testing began in the autumn – and the outcomes have been exceptional.
The solar and wind combination delivered the majority of required power, with the LPG generator only operating for 11% of total runtime since installation.
As the seasons change, performance improves further: during spring and summer, renewable sources are expected to cover nearly 100% of the site’s power needs.
The system’s remote monitoring capability gives the client complete visibility of power generation and consumption 24/7, helping them track performance and sustainability metrics in real time.
